LucidSound LS35X Official Xbox Headset

LS35X is the latest headset manufactured by LucidSound. It is the definitive version of its predecessor, the LucidSound LS30x. This model is officially licensed by Microsoft as the certified Xbox one gaming headset. LucidSound is known for making products that bridge the gap between casual headphone users and hardcore gaming gear enthusiasts. This Xbox Headset will be released on March 31, 2018.

  • Form Factor: Over Ear
  • Output Mode: Stereo, Windows Sonic
  • Weight: 11.2 oz
  • Frequency Response: 20 Hz
  • Sensitivity: 102 dB
  • Impedance: 32 Ohm
  • Wireless Transmission Range: 27 ft
  • Battery Time: 18 hours.

The LucidSound LS35X moves away with the boring looks of most gaming headset manufactures and goes for a more elegant approach. There are no odd design choices like bulky physical characteristics or blinding LED’s. The headset has a fashionable look which raises it above the competition. It comes with two main color schemes; the classic cream white and gold or the traditional black and gunmetal.

Both options offer timeless and classic looks that will look great in any social environment. The Lucid Sound LS35X is mostly adorned with high quality leather that looks and feels fantastic. There are a lot of elegant outlines detailing the headband’s visual design. Near the inside of the headband there is a quilted pattern embroidered on the padding that gives it a touch of class and makes it look stunning.

Design: LucidSound LS35X Official Xbox

All visible characteristics of the LS35X point more towards a designer headset rather than a consumer grade one. Most of these design elements function as the primary controls for the headset. The outer rings on the cups physically rotate allowing you to effectively fine tune your volume and in-game chat levels. Logo’s on both the ears work as functioning switches, enabling you to mute the headset or mic.

Tucking away these controls to serve as dual natured visual aesthetics shows LucidSound’s innovative design decisions. The comfort level of the LS35X is unmatched, due to its use of high-quality memory foam padding. The memory foam starts out as a tough and rigid surface but starts to mould through exposure to heat and pressure to the head. After a while, it will soften to the contours from the user’s head. This makes the headset adapt to the shape of your head, giving you a unique sense of comfort.

When it comes down to audio gear, there is often a big divide between gaming headsets and regular headsets meant for listening to music. This can make it hard for a newcomer to make their decisions on what to buy. Manufacturers tend to complicate this further by catering to different markets. There are gaming headsets, sports headsets, headsets for music playback and headphones for professional audio editing. And while they are all really great at their express purposes there is no one size fits all.

Features: LucidSound LS35X Official Xbox

It may become difficult for someone to stop after looking at just one pair, considering how there are and how many cater to different purposes. Thankfully, LucidSound provide a solution to this addictive behavior by providing you with a headset that doesn’t skimp on anything. Functionality, performance and looks are taken into consideration for the LS35X. The LS35X is designed primarily for game audio.

Although it handles music playback pretty decently. You have a range of EQ options that allow you to tailor the sound for your application. Switching between these options on the fly is easy and you can go back and forth choosing the sound you want out of the headset. You can even save presets on the headset itself conveniently saving you from having to tweak the settings everytime. The LS35X can be hooked up wirelessly to the Xbox One using the wireless dongle provided, it’s a simple plug and play.

You can use the headset from quite a distance without ever having to experience any interference or latency issues. The battery time of the headset is variable depending on how you are using it. For the most part, you should get a good 15 hours out of it on a full charge. But if that seems too much like a hassle, you can always plug it in directly with the 3.5mm cable, this conserves the battery completely.

Sound Quality: LucidSound LS35X Official

The huge 55mm audio drivers on the LS35X deliver a rich powerful sound with tons of audio fidelity. Switching to game mode widens the audible spectrum of the headset giving you better feedback of your virtual surroundings. Music playback is equally phenomenal and the headset complements a variety of musical genres well. There is an accurate representation of deep lows and balanced highs.

Everything is seamlessly blended together in a cohesive whole. While the LucidSound LS35X does not come with Dolby 7.1 Virtual surround, the headset uses a functionally similar program called Windows Sonic to produce the localized sounds. The microphone on theLS35X can be tucked away or detached entirely, making the headset look that much cleaner. When muted, the blue LED’s on the mic flashes, indicating that the microphone has been disabled, using LED’s in this way, was a handy little feature.

Removing the microphone from the headset automatically enables a secondary internal mic to switch on inside the headset. This way you will still retain the functionality of a microphone without having it be directly in front of you. This headset does a fantastic job of filtering out unnecessary background noise while retaining proper voice quality. The built in noise gate samples each users individual voice.

Conclusion and Amazon Reviews (Pros and Con’s)

It then filters out any extra frequencies and background noise, leaving only crisp speech behind. It is worthwhile to note that using the microphone in wireless mode will slightly hamper its quality. This can be mitigated by directly attaching the headset via the 3.5mm jack. However, the overall drop in quality is not that significant and most users in any team chat will likely not notice any drop in quality.

It’s hard not to recommend the LS35X. LucidSound has you covered on all fronts be it sound, comfort or looks. Coming across a complete package like this is not just expensive, it’s incredibly rare. Yet, the LS35X Official Xbox Headset manages to deliver in every aspect making it the best Xbox One headset.

Ear Force XO Four Stealth is the latest model of gaming headset in the ‘Ear Force’ line. Manufactured by Turtle Beach, this company has been in the gaming headset market from as early as 2005. Some hardcore gaming enthusiasts will remember them as one of the few companies offering aftermarket accessories for the PS2 during it’s launch. Turtle Beach were the first company to release Xbox One compatible wireless headsets to the market. There are no doubts over Turtle Beach’s level of quality.

Specifications: Turtle Beach Ear Force XO

  • Form Factor: Closed Back, Over Ear
  • Output Mode: Stereo
  • Weight: 10.62 oz
  • Frequency Response: 16 Hz
  • Sensitivity: 100 dB
  • Impedance: 32 Ohm
  • Connectivity: USB, 3.5mm audio jack
  • Cable Length: 1m cable, plus additional adapter

Visually, the Ear Force XO Four Stealth is very simple. The headset only comes in a matte black finish with sparse neon green details on top of it. Other than the Turtle Beach logo itself, the surface of the headset is mostly empty. At first glance, you would be fooled into thinking of the Ear Force XO as toy. Despite its appearances, the headset is built fairly tough and does not succumb to scrapes or scuffs.

Design: Turtle Beach Ear Force XO- Xbox One

The outer plastic frame on the headset is scratch resistant, surviving just about any accident thrown its way. That is not to say that comfort hasn’t been taken into the equation. Although the majority of on the ear headsets, such as the Ear Force XO, feel very cumbersome, the headset manages to keep its comfort level largely in check. A large amount of comfortable foam lines the inside of this headset.

All the points of stress are distributed evenly relieving any clamping you might otherwise experience. The ear cups on the headset come with green felt padding on the inside which is a nice touch. Being an on-the-ear headset, the cups on the Ear Force XO are fairly small. They are also rotatable leaving them flat for better portability. The overall size footprint of the Turtle Beach Ear Force is incredibly small, this is one of the few headsets that can fit easily into a small backpack pocket or carry pouch.

The Ear Force Four XO comes with its own proprietary stereo adapter that lets you use the headset wirelessly. To get it working, simply attach it to the port located on the bottom of your controller, the fact that the adapter stays on your controller makes it easy to access all the buttons on it. Apart from your usual mute buttons and volume adjustments, the adapter also has switches for the EQ profiles.

Features: Turtle Beach Ear Force Xbox One

The adapter itself is very sturdy in its construction, made of tough rubberized material. This is a stark contrast to Microsoft’s half-hearted attempt at its own official adapter that would break without much notice. Using the headset in wired mode is also a viable option if you plan on running it on any other devices. There are not any real compatibility problems considering the headset uses a standard 3.5 jack. Simply ‘plug and play’ the cable into any gaming device and it will instantly recognize the headset.

Bear in mind that the volume levels will be a little lower considering the headset gets less power from a 3.5mm connector. Plug and play support is provided for many devices like computers, Playstations and consoles. Essential adapters are provided where needed, such as on tablets and mobile phones. Turtle Beach does you the courtesy of providing ample cabling for the headset, which is a nice touch.

All of the standard cables you get with the headset extend a good 6ft and are also very durable. The in-line controls of the Ear Force Four Stealth are really helpful and give you quick access to tweaking your settings for the headset. Volume levels can be turned up surprisingly loud. There is virtually no distortion in the quality of the sound when maxed, this is due to its 50mm neodymium audio drivers.

Sound Quality: Ear Force XO- Xbox One

In terms of sound, the Ear Force XO is naturally geared towards the low-end side of things. There is a larger emphasis on a bass-heavy mix that really brings out the bigger sounds. Huge sound effects like explosions feel meaty and satisfying. The headset uses Microsoft’s own program, ‘Windows Sonic’ to deliver truly breathtaking surround sound capabilities. Directional sounds are beamed to the player from eight different axis points, making it easy to determine the source of any nearby enemy sounds.

This is an essential feature for anyone that plays online shooters competitively. The copious amounts of bass may not make this the most suitable headset for music playback. Details present in the mids such as vocals and lead guitars may feel a little muted. You can partially remedy this by adjusting the bass boosting levels. There are three different bass EQ settings to choose from normal, high and low.

Sadly, it isn’t possible to actually turn the setting off entirely which is a shame. Another major concern with the Ear Force Four Stealth is with its mic quality. While certainly, not the worst mic found on any headset, it is not the best either. The actual sound coming out from the mic is fairly sub-standard and there is some loss of quality every so often. There is a lack of environmental noise thanks to the pop filter provided. But it is a far cry from salvageable, the mic can be removed if you decide not to use it.

HyperX Cloud Stinger Gaming Headset for PC, Xbox One, PS4, Wii U, Nintendo...
  • Lightweight headset with 90-degree rotating ear cups.
  • 50mm directional drivers for Audio precision.
  • Hyperx signature Memory foam. Adjustable steel Slider.
  • Intuitive Volume control on headset ear cup.
  • Swivel-to-mute noise-cancellation Microphone....

The Cloud Stringer is the newest budget headset from Kington’s line of HyperX gaming headsets. The headset follows a simple concept. It provides a basic style that manages to carry out its purpose well.

Specifications: Cloud Stinger Gaming Headset

  • Form Factor: Closed Back, Over Ear
  • Output Mode: Stereo
  • Weight: 9.7 oz
  • Frequency Response: 18 Hz
  • Sensitivity: 98 dB
  • Impedance: 32 Ohm
  • Connectivity: Micro USB, 3.5mm audio jack
  • Cable Length: 1m + 2m extension cable

Design: Cloud Stinger Gaming Xbox One

There isn’t much that’s discernible in the design of the headset. Subdued dark black colors take over the majority of the headset. There is no extra detailing apart from the HyperX logos. It’s all very raw and toned down. The two ear cups have been conveniently labeled ‘L’ and ‘R’. Most of the dimensions are kept as compact as possible. Other than the mic sticking out, the headset keeps a very low profile.

Comfort is another piece of the puzzle that has been taken care of well. Soft memory foam cushioning outlines the inside of the headset. The Cloud Stinger is surprisingly lightweight relative to its size. The headset only weighs 275gm and doesn’t feel weighty. As a result of its larger than average ear cups, the headset ensures that your ears don’t bend backwards with pressure. There’s also a lot of leeway when it comes to making adjustments, granting you a better fit. This result is a surprisingly comfy fit.

Features: Cloud Headset for Xbox One

Setting up the headset for your devices is a very painless and simple process. There are no cluttered companion software applications eating up your valuable disk space. A standard 3.5mm connection allows you to hook the Cloud Stinger to virtually anything, without putting in any additional time and effort. This also means that you can get a broader spectrum of compatibility for your mobile devices.

Sound Quality: Cloud Stinger for Xbox One

The microphone on the Cloud Stinger makes sure that speech is delivered in a pleasant way. The mic itself is very rigid and doesn’t allow a great degree of flexibility. What’s more, you can’t really detach the mic from the headset; you can only retract it vertically. Retracting the mic upwards causes a click to occur, letting you know that the mic is now muted. To un-mute it, you simply bring it back down.

The 50mm audio drivers really push the sound of the HyperX Cloud Stinger. A lot of the audio mix is focused on provided rounded tone. The headset doesn’t come with surround sound but it makes up for it by providing quality stereo sound. Pinpointing sounds in a game’s three-dimensional soundstage is very intuitive. Playing competitive shooters with the Cloud Stinger makes you instinctively move the camera towards the direction of sounds from the opponent team, giving you an edge in many games.

Conclusion and Amazon Reviews (Pros and Con’s)

The HyperX Cloud Stinger is a great headset worth considering for its utilitarian design. By keeping the bare essentials and boasting an unmatched price-to-performance ratio. The headset strengthens its claim as the best Xbox One headset under $50. This headset is a rare mix of quality and affordability.
